Grade 9 English:

Students have started working on their final assessment for gr. 9 English- an independent novel study.  Students will have class time to work on this, but will also have to work on it on their own time.  There is a lot of student choice with this novel study, so students should think about their strengths when choosing their assignments. As this novel study is in place of a final exam, this should be a reflection of the student’s best work.

Students have a handout with the work and the assignments explained in detail.  Any questions please come and see me!

The due date for this assignment is June 13, 2012.

Grade 9 English:

Rant presentations will start today with 2 people presenting.  The rest of the presentations will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) and we will finish up on Thursday.

Students are also asked to choose a novel for their independent novel study that they will be completing as their final assessment.  This novel needs to be chosen for Thursday.  

Criteria for the novel:

  • students have not read it before
  • it must be level appropriate for the student
  • there should be enough going on in the novel (with regards to plot etc…) for the student to complete several different assignments with it.

Grade 9 English:

Students are currently working on their “rant” assignment.  The written copy of the rants is due today and presentation of rants will begin on Tuesday, May 22!

Grade 9 English:

Several students still need to hand in parts of their expository essay package.  These should be in my mailbox by the end of lunch today.

Any students that did not hand in their “The Most Dangerous Game” responses need to do so asap.

Students started an extension activity to this story today and it will be due at the end of Monday’s class.

Grade 9 English:

Expository essay packages  are due by the end of today.  The following needs to be handed in:

  • Organizer/outline
  • Rough copy
  • Good copy (with your thesis statement underlined)
  • Self editing checklist
  • Peer editing checklist (about your paper)

Grade 9 English:

Students should have their introduction and conclusion (rough copy) for their expository essays finished for class tomorrow.  This means that all students should have their complete rough copy written for class tomorrow, and be ready to self edit and peer edit.  On Wednesday we will go to the computer lab so students can start typing up their good copies.

Grade 9 English:

Students are currently working in their expository essays.  All students should have their 3  “body” paragraphs written.   We have done some activities about topic sentences and how paragraphs should be written and students have peer edited each others paragraphs.  Students will be starting their introductions and conclusions today.

Grade 9 English:

Students are working in partners to create their own Mad Libs to review grammar.  We will be going to the computer lab tomorrow to type up the good copies, and they are due at the end of class tomorrow. 

Thursday we will be working on a grammar review.

 Tuesday students will be writing a grammar quiz.
